Michèle Beaconsfield

Retired Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon Moorfields Eye Hospital London UK

Qualified 1979, University of London. Did general surgery, then neurosurgery before finally settling on ophthalmology. Postgraduate training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, including Oculoplastic Fellowship with Richard Collin 1988.
Particular interest in surgical rehabilitation (ocular cicatricial disease, thyroid ophthalmopathy, facial palsy, tumour defect reconstruction). Created the specialised Lid Oncology service at Moorfields now run by Claire Daniel.
Never had the intellect to publish millions of papers; concentrated instead on the logistics and practicalities of hands on surgical/clinical training, and mentoring. Chairman or member of numerous educational committees and training programmes at home and abroad.

Now retired from direct clinical practice, still advise on training programmes as well as chair the EBO-ESOPRS Specialist Exam Board. My enthusiasm for history, art, and feeding family and friends remains undiminished.
