Business Case Writing Workshop: How to make your case and post implementation productivity evaluation
This practical workshop will introduce participants to the key principles of developing a compelling healthcare business case, from identifying an unmet clinical or service need through to securing stakeholder support and demonstrating value (through consultation). Participants will learn how to define the problem, develop and compare options, assess financial and operational implications, identify risks, and present a persuasive case aligned with organisational priorities.
The workshop will also explore post-implementation evaluation, focusing on how to determine whether an approved business case has delivered its intended benefits. This will include selecting meaningful measures of productivity, efficiency, patient outcomes and financial impact, comparing performance against baseline data, and using findings to support continuous service improvement. Through practical examples and exercises, participants will develop skills applicable to service redesign, equipment procurement, workforce expansion and the introduction of new clinical pathways. This is an essential workshop for senior residents, all grades of ophthalmologists and service managers who are looking to make lasting positive change to their department.

This session is relevant to ophthalmologists across all grades and will cover AI literacy and critical appraisal, clinical applications, real-world implementation and human–AI interaction. The session will finish with a panel discussion looking at the future of AI in UK ophthalmology and the role ophthalmologists and the College can play in its development and implementation.
