Dublin Literary Pub Crawl

We have arranged a walking tour of Dublin’s historic pubs in the company of two actors, who will introduce writers and perform scenes from their works.  The tour lasts just over 2 hours, involves a walk of about a half a mile in total and a visit to four pubs.

The tour starts at about 7.15pm from The Duke Pub (9 Duke Street). Food is available at the pub before the tour starts. If you want to eat at the pub, it is recommended that you arrive at 6.30pm.  You order and pay at the bar directly.

The tour costs 15 euros and is payable by cash only on the night.  There are limited places so pre-booking is essential.  Please email the conference organiser and title your email “literary tour booking” to reserve your place.

Welcome Reception

Wednesday 13th June 2018 at 5.30pm

The Welcome Reception is open to all delegates and guests and will take place in the City Hall on Wednesday evening from 17.30 pm.

City Hall is adjacent to Dublin Castle.  It was built between 1769 and 1779. If you look to the ceiling you will see that there is a stained glass dome, initially this was meant to be left open, in the same vein as the Pantheon, however given that we are in Ireland and it rains so often, they decided to cover it in.

Please indicate at the time of booking if you will be attending the reception.  The reception is free.

Gala Dinner: Guinness Storehouse

Thursday 14th June 2018 at 7.30pm

Located in the heart of the St. James’s Gate Brewery, the Guinness Storehouse is Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction, with a total of 1.65 million visitors last year.

You will start the evening by taking a self-guided tour through the first few floors of the storehouse, where you will find out exactly what it takes to make beer the “Guinness way”. You will be welcomed onto the third floor for a pre-dinner drinks reception, where you will get the opportunity to pull the perfect pint of Guinness (and even sample it!). Dinner will then be served in the Arrol Suite followed by music, dancing and craic!

Tickets are priced 100 euro per person; please purchase these when booking for the conference.  Please also make us aware of any dietary requirements at the time of booking your ticket.

Tour of Dublin Castle

There will be an opportunity to take a tour of Dublin Castle including the State Rooms on either Thursday or Friday morning from approximately 8.30 am.  This tour will last approximately 1 hour.  Booking will be available on site only.  Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first paid basis at the conference (reservations are not possible unfortunately).  The cost is approximately 15 euros payable in cash on the day to the tour guide.
