Purnima Mehta is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic surgeon at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust since 2010. She completed her higher surgical training in the West Midlands Deanery, followed by an Oculoplastic and Adnexal Fellowship at the Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre. She has a keen interest in Thyroid eye disease, Paediatric Oculoplastics and peri-ocular reconstructive surgery. She has authored many scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences. She is a reviewer for the Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive surgery journal and Orbit. As part of a multidisciplinary team, she was the Ophthalmology lead for setting up the “Coventry GCA fast track pathway” which was highly commended by the British Society of Rheumatology Best practise Award 2018 for clinical delivery.

She is passionate about education and training and organises the annual “Coventry Ophthalmic Surgery Cadaver course”. She is also faculty for the “West Midlands Emergency Surgical skills Cadaver course” and “Cranio-maxillofacial operative surgery cadaver workshop”.

She enjoys acrylic painting and runs art workshops to teach fluid acrylic painting.
