Course Aims
This medical photography and videography course will provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of medical photography. Participants will learn techniques for capturing high-quality, accurate images of the eye and orbital structures, alongside surgical videography and information governance considerations. It will also teach the basics of surgical videography, and how to use a specially adapted surgical camera system called the Opcam Pro.
Course Structure
This course covers both theory and practical aspects of oculoplastic photography through a mix of lectures and hands-on workshops, including the chance to test out a range of current mirrorless camera technology and studio flash equipment.
Course Learning Objectives
- Identify and demonstrate use of ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, colour balance and understand outcomes of adjusting each
- Key pieces of equipment required to accurately undertake medical photography and videography inclusive of camera equipment and lighting
- Infection control practices in medical photography
- How to undertake standardised facial images for comparative analysis
- Consent, legal and ethical issues
- Information governance and file naming conventions
- Use of editing software and what constitutes photographic manipulation
Who should attend
The workshop is limited to 15 participants on a first booked basis and is suitable for consultants, senior registrars, and fellows working in Ophthalmology, Oculoplastic and Facial plastic surgery. The course is aimed at both beginner and intermediate level.

About
Tutor: Timothy Zoltie
Timothy is an internationally renowned medical photographer and the Head of Medical & Dental Illustration at the University of Leeds, UK. He lectures in conventional photography and both non-clinical and intra-operative videography in the UK and USA, as well as at national and international conferences. He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and a Fellow of the Institute of Medical Illustrators, and editor of the Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine.
Guest Lecturer: Mr. Mohammad Dehabadi
Dr. Dehabadi is a Consultant in Oculoplastics at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He specialises in cosmetic oculoplastic surgery with a strong interest in both the functional and aesthetic aspects of oculoplastics and facial rejuvenation. He has widespread experience in surgical videography, recording multiple surgeries for his popular social media channels.
