Helen Martin graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2003 and has worked for many years as a senior physiotherapist in the plastic surgical unit at St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Merseyside – a tertiary service with a catchment area that includes North Wales and the Isle of Man. Her role is now exclusively the provision of rehabilitation to those with facial palsy including weekly botulinum toxin clinics. Helen is an independent prescriber and co-ordinates the Mersey Facial Palsy MDT that brings together the disciplines of neurosurgery, plastics, otolaryngology, oculoplastics and neurophysiology across 3 separate trusts. She set up the bimonthly Facial Palsy UK Support Group in Liverpool in 2016 and is General Secretary of Facial Therapy Specialists International (https://facialtherapyspecialists.com) – a multinational special interest group for therapists dedicated to ensuring that patients with facial palsy have access to high quality care and rehabilitation. She is an associate member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons. Helen is part of the team currently working on the F.R.A.M.E research project in collaboration with the University of Coventry, appraising the role of therapy and technology in facial rehabilitation.
