The Thyroid Eye Disease Charitable Trust are once again partnering with Fight for Sight and British Thyroid Foundation to provide small grant awards of up to £15000 for research into any aspect of thyroid eye disease. An award for research into blepharospasm is being launched by Fight for Sight (FFS) in collaboration with the Dystonia Society. Open for applications from May 1st for 12 weeks through FFS website. All research applications relating to blepharospasm welcome although projects investigating new treatment techniques, secondary activities to reduce symptoms and the assessment of non-motor symptoms are particularly encouraged.

The BOPSS committee would like to announce the introduction of the International Visiting Fellows Awards. This offers oculoplastic surgeons, who are working abroad, financial support to visit the UK for a short observership under the patronage of a full BOPSS member. For its inaugural year, 2017, Members are invited to propose a visitor for the award; the total value of the which is £2000. One of the recommendations in the Government response to Review of the Regulation of Cosmetic Interventions chaired by Sir Bruce Keogh was that Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) should establish a Cosmetic Inter-specialty Committee (CISC) to improve regulation in the sector to ensure high quality care and an informed and empowered public.
